F-Theory is a formalism for the construction of Type IIB String Theory as a 12-dimensional theory. Type IIB String Theory has an symmetry, which can be naturally realised if it is equivalent by an (torus) compactification, which is an exact equivalence through T-Duals, to a 12-dimensional theory. This 12-dimensional theory is F-Theory. F-Theory is a popular area of study in String Phenomenolgy.
